Architect IM Pei selected American painter Ellsworth Kelly to create the only public art project in the newly designed symphony hall. In this, his largest work, rich colors interact with each other and the environment. A giant of abstract painting, Kelly developed a style covering large canvases to the edge with bright color, depicting no objects at all. He hoped Dallas Panels would express “clarity, optimism, and joyful good spirits.” What a gift he gave Dallas!
